Phlebotomy Technician Program Overview

The phlebotomy technician program is designed to prepare students for employment in hospital laboratories, blood centers, or other health care facilities needing phlebotomists to draw blood by venipuncture and capillary puncture.

Students are taught safe and efficient work practices in obtaining adequate and correct blood specimens, instructions on labeling specimens correctly, and transporting specimens correctly to the appropriate laboratory sections. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines for HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis B and other diseases are also taught in the program in order to enhance their knowledge of crucial health and safety protocols.

Upon completion, students are eligible to take the certified phlebotomy technician examination through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) upon graduation. Exam costs are included in the program fees.

To sit for the NHA CPT certification exam, candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent. It is recommended you have this before enrolling in this program.
